Upon completion of this class you will be able to:
➤ Skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered (inboard or outboard engine) keelboat of approximately 25 to 35 feet length by day in moderate winds (up to 20 knots) and sea conditions.
➤ Gain knowledge of cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather interpretation, safety, and seamanship

The American Sailing Association has adopted two separate Progressive Sailing Certification Programs: a seven-stage Keelboat Sailing Certification Program and a two-stage Small Boat Sailing Program. The text above are the general descriptions or summaries of these Standards. Candidates must have attained the stated prerequisites before they may “Challenge” or take the required ASA examination.
After taking this course, you’ll be able to cruise safely in local and regional waters in Buffalo, NY as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of about 20 to 30 feet in length, in moderate winds and sea conditions.
